April 16, The History of Jazz, Hanah Jon Taylor
The facilitator for this month’s presentation is the World class saxophone/ flutist and educator, Hanah Jon Taylor. Taylor will present a lively and provocative program, “American Music in Transition: An Overview of Jazz Music from 1920 to the Present.”
This 90-minute presentation of images, recorded music, and video documentary will engage the listener in a journey reaching both inside and outside the commercial medium of what is arguably America’s authentic musical art form. The history of Jazz can be traced back to the United States in the early part of the 20th century. From Ragtime and Blues to Big Band and Bebop, jazz has been a part of a proud African American tradition for over 100 years.
This program is in appreciation of April being National Jazz Month.
